Who Let Me Start a Blog?

Mark did! (Thanks, Mark!) Okay, but for real, here’s my situation in case you forgot the basics.

My name is Clara, and I’m from Minneapolis. I’m currently a junior studying sociology & anthropology at Carleton College, where I’m particularly interested in public health (it’s a suuuper broad term, but think patient advocacy, social determinants of health, etc.). For the next semester, though, I’ll be trading the quaint town of Northfield, MN, for Copenhagen, Denmark, where I’ll be taking classes through DIS.

Outside of school, I typically spend my time getting my ass handed to me at swim practice or doing 30-inch box jumps in the weight room. I love a good adrenaline rush (clearly), I am mildly obsessed with quesadillas, and I will probably never say no to going for a walk that involves getting ice cream. I also really enjoy writing, which is part of the reason I wanted to make this blog in the first place.

As for Copenhagen, I’m most excited about getting to experience a new city! Besides road-tripping to Canada as a kid, this is my first time out of the U.S. I’m also looking forward to taking nerdy public health classes, meeting new friends, and, obviously, trying an unreasonable amount of coffee. I’m probably least prepared for bicycle traffic jams, but I suppose that’s part of the experience.

I decided to document this semester because I know I’m going to experience a lot that I won’t want to forget. Some of it will be exciting and worth writing about, some of it will probably be very ordinary, and some of it may consist entirely of me complaining about god knows what. I want to remember all of it, not just the pretty pictures, but also the little everyday things and the moments when I miss home.

I think that just about covers the version of me that can be summarized in a few paragraphs. Thanks for being here!
